“GIVE ME THE TICKET TO FLY THE PARTY FLAG”, PROF. IKONNE APPEALS TO ABIA PDP LEADERSHIP.
The former Vice Chancellor of Abia State University,Professor Eleazer Uche Ikonne has appealed to Abia state Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, Rt Hon. Dr Alwell Asiforo Okere to give him the ticket to fly the flag of the party in 2023 Governorship election.
He said that that history will be kind to Asiforo if he gives the party ticket to a man who knows and understands what it means to develop human and material resources.
He made the appeal today at the PDP party Secretariat, along St Finbers road Umuahia, while declaring his intention to contest for the Governorship seat of the party in 2023.
He said that if given the ticket to fly the flag of the party in the State, he will bring his experience, maturity, commitment to bear and that excellence will be his guiding principle.
In his response, Right Hon. Alwell Asiforo, who spoke on behalf of the State Executives, who welcomed Ikonne and his team to the party headquarters expressed joy that they had not ended the sell of forms, adding that if they had stopped the selling of forms ten days back, they would have missed a scholar.
He commended the quality of aspirants in the race, maintaining that all they will be given a level playing ground during primaries.
He however explained that power belongs to the people and as such, giving of party ticket is in the hands of the delegates who will elect the person that will represent them and fly the party flag.
He emphasized that the primary is a family affair, and warned the media team of all contestants against attacking other contestants in their campaign messages.
Earlier, Ikonne told the teaming crowd at the venue that it has become imperative that Abians should vote someone with International exposure, who will provide quality leadership while running the affairs of the state.
He explained that he has something extra, like experience, maturity and excellence, which stands him out from other contestants, and that they all came from years of working with eminent Abians like Prof S.O Igwe, and others who tutored him on human and capital development.
He noted that in the world today, people are looking for intellectuals to galvanize them as well as coordinate things beyond rhetoric’s.
Ikonne said that while others were doing politics in the field, he was serving the State as an academia.
He pledged to work with aspirants across board if given the ticket so as to reflect the slogan of the campaign which is “Uche Ndi Abia” which will make everyone to smile. END
