The All Progressive Congress, APC Governorship Candidate for Abia state, High Chief Ikechi Emenike has promised to convert Abia polytechnic, the states technical educational institution in Aba , which has been wobbling, following mismanagement, to a full fledged University of Aba, within the first 60 days of his becoming the governor of the state.He therefore urged all staff, students and even Lecturers of the school, including those who were illegally sacked, dismissed or forcefully retired by the emergency policies of the state Government, as a result of misrule, to grieve no more, as he will look into their matters and correct all anomalies.Emenike made this promise at Azikiwe road, Aba, while addressing leaders of over 100 market unions, who agreed to partner with him in his Rescue and Development mission in Abia.
He said that Aba is a great city that has thrived in science and technology as well as commerce and as such should have a thriving higher technological institution that will be churning out developmental ideas for for her to grow to international standerd.
He explained that there is no great city in the world that does not have higher institutions like universities that churn out ideas for them to work on and practically develop, adding that the potentials of the institution in Abia is not encouraged at all.He also promised to establish full fledged merchant bank, with headquarters in Aba, that will see to the acquisition of Letters of credit for business men and women, adding that the banks that exist here are nothing more than cash collection centers.
“What we have here are cash collection centers with head offices in Lagos and Abuja, and when you need unique services of banks , you have to ravel to Lagos or Abuja to get, them, when I become the governor of the state, all those services will be provided for Abia residents here in Aba and other cities of the state, they will no longer go out of the state to get what they need for their businesses to thrive”, Emenike promised. He also promised to create jobs for the youths, lamenting why people are lambasting youths when they have not done anything to help them secure jobs. “If the youths are gainfully employed, they will not involve themselves in crime or touting and thuggery”, he asserted.On the issue of roads, he promised to tar roads, stating that Mbakwe was a Governor for four years and still tarred roads and promised that within four years , all roads in Aba will be tarred.
