The Second Republic Senate President Dr Joseph Wayas, who has been receiving medical attention for sometime now in a London hospital is reportedly dead.
Cross River Governor Ben Ayade , who issued a statement confirming his death lamented the passing on of Wayas, and described his death as a monumental loss to the people of Cross River State in particular and Nigeria in general.
Christian Ita, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said that Wayas left indelible footprints on the sands of time.
According to him, Cross River, as a state is in pains as the people mourn the passing on of Wayas their illustrious son.
He described him was a rare gem, adding that his demise is a monumental loss to the state and Nigeria.
The Governor also said that as a Senate President, Dr Wayas contributed to the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic ethos through his robust, vibrant, and rare leadership in the upper legislative chamber.
He said further that since his retirement from active politics, Wayas had been playing a fatherly role and had been stabilizing the politics and affairs of the state.
He consoled with family and assured them of support, adding that the loss is a collective one and that every citizen of Cross River shares in the pain. END
