The All Progressive Congress APC, in Abia state has called on the national leadership of the party in Abuja, to call the bluff of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the Chief Whip of the Senate, whom reports purportedly stated that he is set to quit the party.
APC, it is widely known is the party that gave Kalu the opportunity to realize his ambition of becoming a Senator and Chief Whip of the Senate, after several futile political attempts through other parties to become a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria .
The Abi chapter of the party said that what Kalu is doing is merely flying a kite, perhaps to attract the attention of the national leadership of the party to beg him not to leave.
“And if that eventually works to his favour, his primary objective would be to extract some concessions, so that he would negotiate to have some position in the party to himself, in a congress which he did not partake in.
“Unfortunately for him, no winner in the congress is ready to concede his position to any other person, particularly those who did not participate in the congress in the state, not even to Kalu, the party said.
The party said that the Chief whip of the senate would be taking a big risk of his life if he tries quitting, because the risk of quitting the ruling party will be too great for him to take.
This is contained in a press release signed by the publicity Secretary of the Party, Hon. Okey Ezeala, made available to newsmen in Umuahia, the Abia state capital.
The party said that it is of the view that the information filtering out about his alleged quitting is questionable and suspicion, knowing his antecedents as one who is always at the Center of an unscripted drama.
The party also said authoritatively that Kalu is not leaving the party, because if he leaves, the PDP in Abia would not even take him back.
According the Publicity Secretary, what is playing out is that Kalu and his supporters are finding it very difficult to swallow the humble pie of accepting the fact that they have lost out in the 2021 congress of the party.
“Their expectation that the state party structure will fall into their hands has become a bridge too far, and they have refused to display the spirit of sportsmanship, by queuing behind the winners, as he is now suffering from excess hubris”.
He called on the general public to know that Senator Kalu is merely flying a kite, perhaps to attract the attention of the national leadership of the party to beg him not to leave, for him to give them conditions.
“And if that eventually works to his plan, his primary objective would be to extract some concessions, unfortunately for him, no winner in the congress is ready to concede his position to any other person, particularly those who did not participate in the congress in the state.
“Every Abian knows that Kalu lacks the courage to pursue his political ambition outside the ruling party. On the two previous occasions he tried it through other parties , he failed, until he found refuge in APC”.
The party explained further that if for any reason the Senate Chief Whip leave the ruling party that engendered his political rehabilitation, that he would sink deeper politically, into the doldrums from where he will never rise again.
“He has no political clout of his own; APC is what sustains him politically”, the party said.
The party said further that the last time Kalu tried to test his popularity, during the Aba federal constituency by election, he lost woefully after foisting his younger brother’s candidacy on the party.
“We can understand his current agony because the era of family romance in a party that is owned by everybody is gone for good in Abia politics as far as APC is concerned. Kalu knows that with the current dynamics in Abia APC, he will never again foist his whims and caprices on the party. APC in Abia State now truly belongs to the people after a long struggle, the party said.
Abia APC therefore called on our national leadership to call the bluff of Senator Kalu’ s kite flying information of leaving the party because his last efforts hit the rocks, as every available door was firmly shut against him.
“The truth therefore is that Kalu has no intention to go anywhere because he has no where else to go to, Abia APC affirmed. END
