Dr Alex Otti, the erstwhile banking guru, who dumped, what many believed to be his calling to dive into the murky waters of Abia politics may not have seen the governorship seat of the state as a do or die affair as many may have believed.
Twice, he was believed to have been robbed of his victory at the polls, as well as suffered betrayal by people he had reposed confidence in politically, yet he has refused to be deterred by these action, but have remained focused on his goal.
Many political jobbers have fed fat on Otti in the time of political ignorance based on trust. Also some friendly enemies, who wore the garb of party membership disappointed him at one time or the other, but Otti has refused to give up in his quest to serve the people that adores him.
Indeed , some political associates had milked him dry and dumped him when the need for their support mattered most. Others even believed that after their actions, Otti would give politically and go back to what he knows how best to do , which is banking.
But they are wrong because in his most recent outing, to identify with the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, Otti shocked some of those who misunderstood his doggedness to serve his admirers by announcing that he is not necessarily interested in contesting for Governorship and that his interest lies in the fact that Abia becomes habitable for her citizens.
The governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA),
in the 2019 election unfolded this on Friday, August…2020, when he formally declared his support for APC in his Nvosi Ward 5, Isiala Ngwa country home.
As it has been said that the wind does not blow across the desert without raising dusts, Otti carried away some of his supporters from APGA into the APC camp, and was received by Ward 5 Chairman, Mr Francis Nnamdi in a ceremony that was attended by some
APC bigwigs.
“My ambition is to help liberate Abia from those who have held it down for so long a time, reduce unemployment by creating jobs, pay workers and pensioners, most of whom are dying, rebuild Umuahia which is now a glorified village”, he explained.
According to him his interest is not necessarily to contest the governorship seat in the state, as he is ready to serve in whatever capacity Abians want him to serve.
He stated that his contacts in economic and financial circles in Nigeria and the globe gives him an advantage to attract genuine investments to the state, pointing out that it is abominable to owe a pensioner who had used all his working years to serve the state.
Earlier, a former federal lawmaker, Hon Chinenye Ike had assured Otti of the readiness of the party to offer him all the rights and privileges inherent in the party, stressing that in APC, there is nothing like old member and new member.
Ike, who represented Isiala Ngwa South/ Isiala Ngwa North in 7th House of Representatives, described Otti as a big fish.
However, at the party Secretariat, the State Chairman of the party, Chief Donatus Nwankpa said Otti is a star that should not be ignored by any politician, adding that his entry into APC was well deserved. END
