The Chief Medical Director, CMD, Federal Medical Center, FMC, Umuahia, Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval that all funds meant for Capital projects in Government hospitals be released 100 % has made it possible for Serious Directors of FMCS in the Country to achieve greater infrastructural feats for their Centers. He thereby extolled the virtues of the President, thanking him for insisting that capital releases be 100% so that hospital leaders, who are serious in developing infrastructures and other projects can use the resources to do so in their Centers without hitches. I want to thank the president for making us happy at FMC, he said, as he addressed his staff.
Onyebuchi who stated this while speaking at the thanks Giving/End of year church service, organized for the staff of FMC Umuahia at the premises of the hospital, explained that every major development seen inside the hospital is from the good policy of president Buhari.“If you look around FMC, it can only be God and his grace, because ever since I became the Chief Medical Director, all our capital releases have been 100 %. The colleagues who served before me did not enjoy this luxury that is why you are seeing massive infrastructural development and the environment of FMC looking better. The good policy of Mr President made it so”, Onyebuchi explained.

Speaking further, he thanked the Governor of Abia state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for constructing a one kilometer road inside FMC, the Federal Ministry of Health, the Board of Management of the Ministry for being supportive and cooperative of the development of the hospital.“I also want to thank Senator T.A.Orji who through his constituency project built a multi-purpose hall and CONNAC Foundation, who through his friends and associates built CONNAC wellness park, the first of its kind in a public tertiary hospital.
“There is no public hospital that has a fountain inside it except FMC Umuahia .We want to thank all the foundations and rich individuals who have come into this hospital to pay all bills of very poor patients who can’t afford the cost of care. These are the kind of favours we have been getting because, if not, these patients will keep remaining here, and as we run revolving funds, we need to revolve the funds to make the hospital functional, where we can waive, we do waive, we have a policy for that”, he explained further.
He assured the staff of their welfare packages, adding that due to the economic situation, every resource manager is looking for a way to cutting down on the cost of some operations.“But by the grace of God, once God keep us here, by the end of 2022, you will still get what you usual get.
He also apologized to newly recruited staff who started effectively in October, explaining that he tried to do a last munite shuttle to Abuja, “to see if he could get their salary for the month, but it did not work out”. “We are working round the clock; my promise to you is that all your entitlements, including your salaries will get into your account as soon as possible.
