A pioneer member of the defunct All Nigerian Progressive Party, (ANPP), Chief Edwin Agwu, has said that one of the resounding qualities of the leader of All Progressive Congress, APC in Abia state, High Chief Ikechi Emenike is that he detests people with high ego, especially those who have the spirit of cheating and suppressing the Truth.
This is contained in a write up he titled “2023: Time for APC to face challenges, not chasing shadows”.
Agwu, described by many who know him as a true progressive, explained that while Emenike’s dis-tractors are noted for thinking only of themselves, instead of the people, the Party leader believes that everyone is important in the development of the society and State, despite his class, position, wealth and privilege.
He explained that the development and encouragement of the weak within the society should be a major concern for every politician that is opportuned to be in power, but decried that most of the Abia politicians who are opposing Eminike lack that quality.
He advised those who think that by attacking the person of Emenike, they will resolve the Challenges confronting the Party in the state ahead of 2023 general election, to have a rethink as all their efforts will amount to campaign of calumny against the party in the State .
The Arochukwu Local Government Area born politician described Emenike as a team player, who “in the rural areas, does not hide his feelings in relating with the people against what some privileged Politicians who joined APC later does, by looking down on everyone, but themselves.
“They do not only pride themselves as true Progressives, but also see themselves as defenders of the masses, whom they do not represent their interest in their speech and actions”.
Agwu stated that Politics is all about the people, and that he had observed and heard Emenike declare that severally, that the APC door is open for everyone to join.
“The problem of some people is ego-centrism, they want to join and displace those who were in the party long before they came, they are priding themselves as the Alpha and Omega in party politics and for that reason, they must be recognized before any other person”, Agwu said
“It is this type of attitude that Emenike does not want to hear about, because he is a man of the people and is always against those who are oppressing the people, Agwu explained further.
“In the present APC led Federal Government under President Mohammadu Buhari, Emenike has been recognized for his steadfastness in sustaining the Party, on his own side, he has also recognized some members of the Party from the State, who ordinaryly would not have been rewarded for their personal efforts in building the party and cause them to be appointed to head notable Federal Government Agencies, Institutions and Commissions.
He gave the influence of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP being in power at the Federal Government level for over 14 years (May 1999-2015), and the Succession game incumbent governors played by handing over power to somebody that would watch their backs, against the popular vote of the people, as the main reasons why PDP has remained in power.
He recalled that Prominent among the present membership of APC that were pioneers of the defunct ANPP in the State is Emenike, who contested the governorship elections in the State under the defunct ANPP, adding, and Chief Donatus Nwankpa was elected a member of the State House of Assembly and represented Osioima Ngwa State Constituency.
Agwu recalled also that Prince Paul Ikonee decamped from PDP to defunct ANPP to seek for the ticket of the Party to contest for the Governorship Seat of the State, and that the situation saw the Party then going into the election as divided house, following the contention of the Party’s candidacy, as Ikonne worked against Emenike who was duly chosen as the Party’s flag bearer.
He therefore urged those fighting the party in the name of fighting Emenike to shield their sward of war, as all their efforst will amount to campaign of calumny against APC in the State .
Those who think by attacking the person of Emenike that they have resolved the Challenges confronting the Party ahead of 2023 general election should think twice, Agwu advised. END
